It is ok to toot… ...your own horn!
"Tooting your own horn can be healthy and helpful! How? Gain confidence: When you accomplish something or reach a goal, celebrate it- tell others! …Credibility: When you reach goals, you are viewed as a person of action, and not just a talker. …Shared Success: People want to associate themselves with winners; your actions will inspire others..." ~ Blog summary from ericpapp.com
I wanted our teachers’ hard work and extra effort to incorporate technology to be publically celebrated, but in a creative manner. Some collaboration went in to this project, for example, our art teacher designed the beautiful backdrop with musical notes. Some friendly competition began as teachers started to see their colleagues, (whom they might not have expected to see featured) spotlighted!
Basically, there is a display in the front lobby where we post examples of technology integration via qr codes that can be read by fellow staff members, parents, and visitors. “Toots” are sent in to me by the teacher themselves, or they share something great they’ve seen a co-worker doing. With a visit to an online qr code creator, a link to their technology creation, or a brief summary of what they’ve accomplished is produced!
It’s fun to watch parents or school visitors in our lobby playing with their smart-phones to capture the qr code news. It’s like an information scavenger hunt for grown-ups!
